GERMANY OFFICES IN CHINA, 1900, 5pf
on 10pf CARMINE - FOOCHOW SURCHARGE, 45 DEGREE OVERPRINT, #16a, Michel #7 IA, clear strike of "Futschau, Deutsche Post 7/7 00" first day circular datestamp, fresh color, fine-very fine, signed Pfenniger, with 1988 Lantelme cert., unlisted in
Scott, Michel €7,500.00
A very rare first day use cancel on the 5pf Foochow surcharge. Only 100 were printed for use prior to November 1900. Michel has two separate listings for the Foochow surcharge with the 45 Degree Overprint. Those with circular datestamps prior to Nov. 7, 1900 can be confirmed as originating from the first surcharging of which only 100 were made. These command a significant premium to those issued after Nov. 7 as there were 2,500 surcharged. Undoubtedly, between examples which remained unused and those lost to natural attrition, we doubt many still exist. |
